In 1985, some of my friends and I were singing in a school concert and because we lived so far from the school, we were allowed to stay behind until the concert began at 7.30pm.
We were told to sit in Room 3 which was one of 3 classrooms on the ground floor corridor leading to the locker rooms on the eastern side of the school. It was winter and it got dark fairly quickly as we sat and ate our food and chatted.
By about 5.30pm we were bored and about 8 of us took a short walk up the corridor to kill time. Ahead of us were the double glass doors that separated the locker room from the corridor. We all noticed, what we thought was the caretaker, walking up and down the lines of lockers in the darkened room. This didn't seem alarming, as he was probably just checking that no one was in there before he locked up.
Just then, the caretaker walked through the doors behind us!! I then jumped to the conclusion it was the headmaster, but my friend told the caretaker that we thought we saw him in the locker room and he went as white as a sheet!! He explained that he had locked all the doors and windows earlier and he had just spoken to the headmaster in his office!!!
There were 2 other female teachers in the school at the time and they were sent for to sit with us while the caretaker and headmaster checked the locker room for an intruder! No one was found and no sign of a break in or open window was found.
My school was opened in 1910 by the Bernadine Order of Nuns as a girls convent school and remained a convent until 1984, the previous year. There had been a few deaths in the school during its 75 years and sightings of ghostly nuns and strange sounds echoing through the corridors were well known to the staff and pupils down the years.
Had we seen one of the schools previous occupants??
A few years later on the west side of the school, during a lesson, 3 classes heard the sound of someone falling down the staircase that led up 4 floors to the science labs. No one was seen on the staircase. It turns out, during the 1960's an elderly nun fell down that same staricase and died from a broken neck.
Had we all heard a replay of her tragic death?
