Last Wednesday (5th May) here in south Essex we experienced a pretty violent electrical storm at around 3pm.
A few hours before at 12pm, I had picked my daughter up from pre-school and was on my way to make my Nan-in-law's lunch (she is 92, bless) before heading off to a kids playcentre nearby.
As we pulled up outside the house my daughter started yelling, "There's a yellow circle in the sky! Behind the tree, mummy!" She jumped out of the car and we ran to see what it was, but there was nothing there. No balloon, no kids playing ball, no nothing. The sky was blue, with heavy clouds coming from the west and there wasn't even an aeroplane in the sky. Puzzled, we carried on with our day.
I kept thinking of UFO's (which I don't beleive in) and wondering what she could have seen.
The storm broke around 3pm as we were in the playcentre and we watched the lightning tear across the sky.
The next day, my sister emailed me an article on ball ligtning and I nearly fell off the chair!!
I wonder was that what my daughter saw?

I remember when I was little every time it started to thunder & lightning my Nan used to open the front and back door. When I asked why she did this she said to let the lightning out?
I didn't have a clue what she meant and never thought to ask until I was older. Then she said that when she was little, a ball of lightning came down the chimney, out of the fire and continued to bounce of the walls in the kitchen until it eventually flew out of the back door!!!
Ever since then she always opened the door in case it happened again and couldn’t escape!
Also my mum once said she saw a ball of lightning flying through the sky during a bad storm. She said it looked like a ball of white fire!
